Veneers

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are a lot like contact lenses that cover your front teeth. They are helpful in covering up imperfections and flaws such as discolourations, spaces or small fractures in teeth. Despite being thin, porcelain veneers are extremely resilient and can last a long time with the proper care.

Good Candidate For Porcelain Veneers

Why are Porcelain Veneers needed?

Veneers are used to change the shape, color, size, and symmetry of the teeth and smile. It’s relatively minimally invasive to prepare and place the actual veneers, so you won’t need to undergo extensive cosmetic work just to repair problems that veneers can cover. Some of the different flaws that veneers can cover include:

  • Spaces and gaps between teeth
  • Discolored and stained front teeth
  • Uneven, unsightly teeth
  • Teeth that are sharp or jagged-looking
  • Teeth that are chipped, cracked or have minor breaks

Who is a good candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers can be placed over otherwise healthy adult teeth. If your teeth are decayed or if you’re experiencing other problems, we’ll recommend additional treatment before veneers are made for you. Also, veneers need to be placed on teeth that are protected by the natural bite. It is common for patients to get dental veneers before a big event, like a reunion or wedding.

What happens during the procedure for Porcelain Veneers?

We usually have a consultation appointment where we design and agree on treatment, at this appointment an impression might be taken to create a mock up model of what your teeth can look like after the treatment. At the first appointment, local anesthetic is placed for comfort throughout the procedure then the teeth are prepared. An impression is taken of the prepared teeth then temporary veneers are placed. A shade of your choice is selected at the office or sometime for customization done at the lab.  The ceramicist fabricates your veneers and about two weeks after the preparation appointment they are ready to be cemented on. On the placement day, veneers are placed and approved by you for shade and shape then finally cemented. Care instructions are given to prolong the longevity of your new beautiful smile.
