Tooth Extraction

Tooth or dental extraction is where a tooth is removed safely from the mouth to improve overall health. At Beacon Hill Dental Centre we have the knowledge and expertise to perform extraction procedures in a gentle and predictable manner. Then we provide you with the necessary after-care instructions and call you to check and answer any questions you may have after the procedure.

Why is a Tooth Extraction Necessary?

When a tooth is deemed non-restorable because of a larger cavity or an infection, a tooth extraction is necessary to prevent further damage and pain. Usually infections and cavities can spread in the mouth and cause unpleasant complications that can be eliminated by having a tooth extracted. Sometimes teeth to be extracted to make space for other teeth to correctly erupt in the mouth or resolve severe crowding. Whatever the reason might be, we will apply our knowledge and expertise to make the extraction procedure as gentle and predictable.

What is the Difference Between a Regular Dental Extraction and a Surgical Dental Extraction?

All extractions need profound local numbing, once that’s achieved the tooth can be elevated and removed entirely in one piece which is usually considered a simple extraction. In some cases, that is not possible, so the tooth needs to be sectioned into smaller pieces or a small amount of bone removed to make it possible for the tooth to be extracted. These decisions are to be made by the dentist at the time of extraction. We then provide you with after care instructions to promote healthy healing.

Bone Grafting and Ridge Preservation

When you have a tooth extracted there is usually an empty space that is left in the jaw bone where the tooth used to be. This space can be filled with a clot then gum tissue to help healing. As it heals, the dimensions of the original bone holding the space of the extracted tooth can change dramatically causing it to be inefficient to retain an implant or a bridge in the future. If you plan on having an implant or a bridge in the future, this space should be preserved with bone and other material to preserve its dimensions.

Here at Beacon Hill Dental Centre we have the knowledge, expertise and advanced materials to perform bone grafting and ridge preservation right after the extraction, which is the best time for  predictable results. We will discuss this treatment option with you ahead of time when needed.
